We are learning about statistics

We are data detectives:

Statistics is about collecting data and gathering all of the information that you need. There needs to be a purpose for your data collection.

We gather data for a particular need. For example, we might do an investigation about our favourite colours if we were going to buy each person a t-shirt or make them a card.

You can use open or closed questions to gather data.

You can present your data in a graph. For example:

  • Tally chart
  • Scatter plot
  • Line graph
  • Stem and leaf graph
  • Bar graph
  • Pictograph
A bar graph has:
  1. A title
  2. Bars (even widths)
  3. An x and y axis
  4. The y axis has numbers on it that are evenly spaced
  5. Labels on the x and y axis
Once we have presented the data - we can make statistical statements by analysing it.

We found out that a koru comes from the New Zealand fern. It symbolises growth, new life and new beginnings. The koru is a very important image in New Zealand, it has many uses. These are some we could think of: - Weaving - Decorations - Ta moko - Tattoos - On the Marae - In art - To represent your family - Pounamu - On waka - In patterns Here is an amazing timelapse video we watched of a fern unfurlng - it made it so clear to see the spiral shape of the koru. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9c9Zi3WFVRc

One week at school!!

We have been working on being a good team.  We work as a team to help answer everyone's questions.  We have been working together in a team in maths. We have had fun.  We have finished our Wednesday windows.  Some people have started by bringing their window. When we first started school everyone was working well straight away. We have learnt to never give up.  We fail and fix in our learning.  We are walking through challenges in life and learning.  Lots of us have come back showing good Maraeroa values and key competencies. We have all been working as a whanau. We have been taking care of each other. It was fun being at school on the first day to see our friends again.  We were communicating with our friends.  We see our friends and we smile. We are all taking risks with our learning. When we walked to the hall we were quiet in our lines.  Role models! When the new road patrol people started it was exciting. Our Pat...
