We are learning about statistics

We are data detectives: Statistics is about collecting data and gathering all of the information that you need. There needs to be a purpose for your data collection. We gather data for a particular need. For example, we might do an investigation about our favourite colours if we were going to buy each person a t-shirt or make them a card. You can use open or closed questions to gather data. You can present your data in a graph. For example: Tally chart Scatter plot Line graph Stem and leaf graph Bar graph  Pictograph A bar graph has: A title  Bars (even widths)  An x and y axis The y axis has numbers on it that are evenly spaced Labels on the x and y axis Once we have presented the data - we can make statistical statements by analysing it.

Literacy Learning

During literacy time we have been learning about ANZAC day and what it means for New Zealand. Miss Fiona explained to us about what ANZAC means for her whanau. We are reading lots of different journal articles about ANZAC and we are making information posters to show the rest of our class. To gather ideas we read our journals, discuss the text, and write down key information. We have summarised the information into our own words. On Friday we planted poppy seeds in small pots that we decorated. We have also been publishing our persuasive writing. We have had lots of different arguments to write about and we have been improving each day. By Miss Norris's Literacy Group
