Koru Art!

We found out that a koru comes from the New Zealand fern. It symbolises growth, new life and new beginnings. The koru is a very important image in New Zealand, it has many uses. These are some we could think of: - Weaving - Decorations - Ta moko - Tattoos - On the Marae - In art - To represent your family - Pounamu - On waka - In patterns Here is an amazing timelapse video we watched of a fern unfurlng - it made it so clear to see the spiral shape of the koru. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9c9Zi3WFVRc

Assembly Awesomeness

This morning, Whanau Ako Nui hosted the first parent assembly for 2018.  Our presenters were fantastic at speaking clearly and loudly while the rest of our whanau supported them with role model assembly appreciation and singing .  Ka pai whanau!!!!

Mind-bending Maths

We are focusing on trying to figure out maths problems about patterns by concetrating. We are solving problems about tivaevae, sasa, tapa cloth and more. We use maths to challenge our thinking and other people's thinking. We are counting up in numbers to find number patterns to find the rule. We use lots of strategies to solve our maths problems. We respect our friends thinking by listening and giving them a chance to share. We connect ideas to other people's. We share the pen to write our ideas.  We work together as a team. We explain our thinking for other's understanding.

Patai Ako - My Identity

We are learning about... healthy me and our idenity Last week, we wrote about our identity then our classmates had to guess who was who! Yesterday we started creating our quality world collages. We needed to think about: - Power - Survival - Freedom - Fun - Love and belonging When we are talking about healthy me, we think about our needs. We were doing our collages with magazines to represent our own quality world. Everyone's quality world looked different. By Whanau Ako Nui

One week at school!!

We have been working on being a good team.  We work as a team to help answer everyone's questions.  We have been working together in a team in maths. We have had fun.  We have finished our Wednesday windows.  Some people have started by bringing their window. When we first started school everyone was working well straight away. We have learnt to never give up.  We fail and fix in our learning.  We are walking through challenges in life and learning.  Lots of us have come back showing good Maraeroa values and key competencies. We have all been working as a whanau. We have been taking care of each other. It was fun being at school on the first day to see our friends again.  We were communicating with our friends.  We see our friends and we smile. We are all taking risks with our learning. When we walked to the hall we were quiet in our lines.  Role models! When the new road patrol people started it was exciting. Our Pat...
